Ladies – while your men are busy looking at, talking about or buying tools, we offer an opportunity for you to enjoy yourself, learn new things and meet fun people. All women are automatically members of the M-WTCA Auxiliary and we hope you will participate.During the men’s programs, the women also have a program or activity scheduled that is always informational and/or entertaining.
At the national meetings we are fortunate to be able to see interesting and educational displays that women create showcasing their collections or other items of interest. Each meeting has a theme and the ladies use creativity and ingenuity in their exhibits. The displays are judged and prizes awarded. It is an opportunity to view fabulous and interesting collections – and learn something new.
Our opening event at national meetings on Thursday night is usually a Meet and Greet. First time attendees are welcomed and members bring items they collect or craft or anything they might want to share about themselves. Some ladies do not want to do a display but are delighted to share one or more items in a casual setting. We have been fortunate to see and hear about many fascinating items and have an opportunity to get to know our members better. We also have a book club and try to read a variety of books. This group continues to grow in size. Discussions are always interesting and thought provoking. We have a ladies luncheon on Saturday at noon. Our national meeting always ends with a banquet on Saturday night for attendees. Our meals are great, the fellowship around the table is always interesting and we all look forward to some entertainment.
Our last meeting was held in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania June 10 – 12, 2010. Members enjoyed a tour of the National Civil War Museum in downtown Harrisburg. A silent auction was lots of fun. "The Quilter’s Apprentice" by Jennifer Chiaverini was chosen for the book discussion. Art & Joy Kushlan from Pennsylvania and Jim & Phyllis Moffet from Illinois entertained at the luncheon on Saturday with "Unusual Kitchen Gadgets". A good time was had by all!
The fall meeting will be held in Louisville, Kentucky October 7-9, 2010. Known for the Kentucky Derby (horses and hats), "hot browns" (dinner food), "happy balls" (chocolate candy), and lovely "Old Louisville" (historical homes) your visit to this area promises to be memorable.
The theme chosen for the women’s displays is "Decorations. Please consider joining the fun.
Join our mini-Derby day by touring Churchill Downs on Thursday morning. There is no more important decoration in Louisville than HATS! Welcome Polly Singer on Thursday afternoon. Check out Polly’s website:
The book chosen for Louisville’s discussion will be "Gap Creek" by Robert Morgan. This novel of turn-of-the-century Appalachian life works in fire, flood, swindlers, sickness, and starvation--a truly biblical assortment of plagues, all visited on the sturdy shoulders of 17-year-old Julie Harmon. In previous novels Morgan proved his ability to create memorable heroines. In Gap Creek, he writes with great feeling - but not a touch of sentimentality - about a life Julie aptly calls "both simple and hard."
Friday evening we will have a hat making workshop. Ladies, bring trim and flowers and ribbons from your craft room and a hat you’d like to decorate!! We should have a lot of fun and then be able to wear new hats to the luncheon.
Our luncheon speakers on Saturday will feature M-WTCA members, Mike Stemple and Phil Baker who will tell about the Crystal Cathedral and all the inventions arising from the First World’s Fair held in the United States in 1853. Join in the fun by wearing a hat to the luncheon!
The "Louisville Ladies" are ready to shower you with Southern hospitality when you arrive in Kentucky for the semi-annual meeting. So make plans now to attend the M-WTCA Fall Semi-Annual Meeting in Louisville, Kentucky. We are all looking forward to visiting with old friends and making some new ones!
